HOT OFF THE PRESS

A beloved and towering figure within the Washington DC area,  Rayceen Pendarvis is often referred to as “Auntie Rayceen” by many in the community who revere the DC icon as a trusted counselor and mentor.  Their reverence is only natural since Pendarvis has established a firm reputation as a nurturing and maternal figure with a keen ability to dispense a wide range of useful advice.

Therefore, within the past decade, it came as no surprise when Pendarvis accepted the call to begin sharing that advice with readers of not one, but several lifestyle magazines targeting the African-American and LGBTQ communities.  Collectively, these articles have continued to widen the career umbrella of the Pendarvis brand while also spreading the spirit and core values of the diva's overall mission.

TAGG MAGAZINE

On June 30, 2015, Rayceen Pendarvis expanded the foray into the publishing industry once again by  debuting as a contributor to Tagg Magazine (online edition).  The inaugural article debuted for this innovative lesbian-focused periodical with the title Black Pride: The Need for Growth without Greed.  This scolding commentary arrived just in time for DC Black Pride's 25th anniversary.  Pendarvis used the platform to lament the fact that party promoters, club proprietors, bar owners, and other venues were routinely “taking our money and not giving back to our community”.  Pendarvis further highlighted the fact that decades after America's most influential “black pride” festival began, somehow over time it had lost the true meaning and spirit intended by its creators.  This article was later followed by one more, titled Rayceen Pendarvis on Community and Unity.  Despite only writing a limited number of articles for Tagg, please be sure to check back as more may eventually be added to the collection on a later date.

Tagg Magazine is an innovative, lesbian-focused periodical created by women, for the lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community and distributed primarily throughout the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia and Delaware.  Their goal is to provide queer women with a central source for lesbian culture, news, and events.
